For the past decade, Minimalism, the absence of many things, has been a very popular trend and has translated into the graphic design space as well. This is seen with the use of simple lines, shapes, and limited color pallets.

In complete contrast to the minimalistic design, composition-heavy designs work to use as much white space as possible using creative illustrations to attract the trendy consumer. The design is very color-rich and can tell a story.

Originally, visible borders were referred to as old as they only functioned to separate clickables on a website, but now in 2024, were see more and more it is being used as a graphic design technique. Not only are borders appealing to the eye, but it maxes out user functionality with the creation of emphasis and consistency. Apple is a very notable brand that uses this technique for its stores and software design style.

Since the introduction of artificial intelligence, starting with Siri and recently evolving into platforms such as ChatGPT, AI has further advanced in image creation. Not only have AI designs been timesavers, but they have been seen to use relevant imaging, personalized targeting, and optimization to be sure you get the most out of your AI Graphic design requests and motivation.

After the hit movie “Barbie” came out in July of 2023, the official Barbie pink has taken the world by storm. Barbie pink has been seen as the rage in fashion, interior design, and most importantly graphic design. Using bold feminine pink relays the message to consumers that their business is with the times, trendy, and “woke”.

The Barbie movie was not only referred to as “fabulous” and “iconic”, but tackled a lot of difficult views in consideration of gender roles and feminism, and using this color lets customers know you embodied these values as well. It’s a color rarely related to professional business and this invitation and using it within designs reforms companies and their view from consumers. Not only that, but Barbie pink is fun!

7. Naturalistic References

2023 was a very eye-opening year as sustainability became and trendier. Businesses will continue to keep up and appeal to the naturalistically aware consumer in 2024 by using earthy tones and calm designs to create a sense of natural beauty and fluidity within their products. Brands or campaigns with a focus on environmental consciousness may adopt this style to convey a connection with nature and a commitment to sustainability. The use of certain images within designs can go even deeper for consumer messaging, for instance, certain flowers may symbolize growth and renewal, while mountains may represent stability and strength.

Callbacks have been all the rage and have even affected graphic design trends as well. Retro Design trends take a blast to the past embracing nostalgia and incorporating aesthetics reminiscent of specific eras.
